Automated final inspection of coupling bodies

High-performance technology for the final inspection of clutch bodies is to be implemented as part of a project for a drive technology company. These components are part of modern vehicle transmissions. To avoid failures in the field, a series of tests are required to ensure complete control.

The project includes the implementation of camera-based systems and mechanical hardware. The optical tests are carried out in several steps at different stations in a rotary transfer machine. A total of 16 inspection tasks and 7 cameras are used, with each camera fulfilling a specific function and inspecting different features.

The cameras used check the chamfer on the cone and front face in particular. The toothing is checked for misalignment and burr displacement, among other things. A combination of matrix cameras using the transmitted light method and laser triangulation makes it possible to examine both the outer and inner surfaces of the coupling bodies during the rotation process.

The fully automated final camera inspection ensures that coupling bodies are inspected consistently and precisely. The method is much more efficient and reliable than manual testing procedures and ensures the best quality for the company’s end customers.

The implementation of the project not only increases production efficiency, but also protects against quality problems, which benefits long-term customer satisfaction.
